Position Summary

The Family Engagement Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing strategies that foster meaningful partnerships between families, the organization, and the broader community. This role serves as a primary liaison between families, staff, and community partners to strengthen communication, increase family participation, and support positive educational outcomes for students.

 

The Specialist leads outreach initiatives, coordinates workshops and family-centered programming, and promotes college-going awareness and readiness through targeted engagement activities. This position plays a key role in ensuring families have access to information, resources, and opportunities that support student success.

 

This is a part-time, non-benefited, onsite position. 20-25 hours per week.

Work location: Centinela Valley Union High School District

Hourly Rate: $30.00


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Family Engagement & Outreach

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive family engagement plan aligned with organizational goals.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with families to encourage active participation in programs and events.
  • Serve as a liaison between families, program staff, and community partners to facilitate communication and collaboration.
  • Conduct outreach to families to increase awareness of available programs, services, and resources.

Program Development & Facilitation

  • Design and facilitate grade-appropriate workshops and programming related to college awareness, college readiness, and educational planning.
  • Develop educational materials, curricula, and activities that support family engagement and student success.
  • Coordinate and support family-focused events, meetings, and workshops.

Communication & Information Dissemination

  • Share information with families about events, policies, resources, and programs through multiple communication channels such as newsletters, email, social media, and meetings.
  • Develop outreach materials, including newsletters, flyers, and digital communications, to promote family participation.

Program Monitoring & Evaluation

  • Track and document family engagement activities and participation.
  • Collect feedback from families to assess program effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Prepare reports and summaries of engagement efforts for leadership.

Collaboration

  • Partner with community organizations, schools, and service providers to connect families with additional resources and support services.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure programs are responsive to family needs and culturally inclusive.

Other Duties

  • Perform additional responsibilities and projects as assigned by the Director.

Education, Experience, and Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Human Services, Communications, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of experience working with families, schools, or community-based organizations.
  • Experience developing or facilitating workshops, training sessions, or educational programming.
  • Experience coordinating events, outreach activities, or family engagement initiatives.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build trust and maintain positive relationships with diverse families and community stakeholders.
  • Valid California Driver's License and reliable transportation

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience working in college access, college readiness, or postsecondary planning initiatives.
  • Knowledge of family engagement strategies within educational or nonprofit settings.
  • Experience working with culturally diverse communities.
  • Strong organizational and project coordination skills.
  • Ability to analyze participation data and use feedback to improve programming.
  • Bilingual or multilingual communication skills (preferred depending on community needs).

Working with Families and Community Partners

The Family Engagement Specialist is expected to:

  • Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and culturally responsive environment for families.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of diverse communities and family structures.
  • Encourage active family participation in student learning and college readiness initiatives.
  • Maintain strong collaborative relationships with community organizations, schools, and service providers.
  • Ensure communication with families is clear, accessible, and responsive.
