About GEAR UP:
GEAR UP provides academic and enrichment activities to over 750 7th-grade students in the Hawthorne School District and follows them to their first year in college. The program offers services and resources to enhance the academic skills of the participants and provides them with fast-paced, intense academic coursework and other social, cultural, and recreational enrichment activities focused on college access and success.
About the Position
Under the direction and supervision of the GEAR UP Director, the Program Coordinator will be responsible for managing the delivery and implementation of core interventions and services for students and their families, as outlined in annual school-specific GEAR UP work plans and budgets and in accordance with U.S. Department of Education regulations. Coordinators execute plans and build trusting relationships with students and families that have been shown to foster student success. The position may include some supervisory responsibilities. The Coordinators are charged with providing educational outreach services to a minimum of 350-750 targeted students in grades 6th-12th in three local schools. Their responsibilities include, but will not be limited to: recruitment of participants, data collection in order to compile student folders, A-G course evaluation for participants, creating and presenting various workshops, and generating and choosing appropriate intervention strategies for student educational success.
Position Information
Employment at Toro Auxiliary Partners is on an at-will basis. It can be terminated by either an employee or Toro Auxiliary Partners at any time with or without cause or advanced notice. Permanent status can neither be obtained nor granted. This position is full-time, salary-exempt, benefited, plus employer-sponsored health, dental, vision, life insurance, retirement, and sick/vacation pay.
This is a full-time, benefited, onsite position at Leuzinger High School.
Hourly Rate: $25.00 - $27.64 DOE

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as a member of the local GEAR UP School Site College Success Team;
- Monitor GEAR UP student grades, attendance, and transcripts to promote on-time promotion and graduation and completion of appropriate rigorous coursework;
- Meet with students to facilitate Postsecondary Educational Planning Sessions (PEPS) to develop and maintain an individual academic needs assessment plan for each, and monitor their academic progress;
- Provide grade-level appropriate information about career and college options, preparation, and financial support opportunities to GEAR UP students;
- Provide GEAR UP parents with advice and information on college planning and financial aid resources;
- Develop, plan, and implement educational program activities and services for students (workshops, field trips, and summer programs);
- Recognize and celebrate student success;
- Conduct exit interviews with each graduating senior, provide information, and update the progress of educational goals and acceptance and attendance of post-secondary institutions for the upcoming fall semester.
- Monitor the success of the project, including levels of participation, quality of activities, and impact in terms of student achievement, attendance, educational expectations, and behaviors;
- Maintain accurate and complete records of student data and participation in GEAR UP activities, and submit on a timely basis;
- Leverage community resources, solicit in-kind contributions of goods and services from external sources, and maintain proper records for all expenditures;
- Assist the Director in proposal preparation and annual reports.
- Periodic out-of-state travel to annual conference, required.
Education and Experience
Education: Required: Bachelor's degree
Preferred: Master's degree in higher education, counseling, social work, child development, education or related field.
Experience:
- At least one year of experience working with middle school or high school students
- Successful experience in student support role(s)
- Knowledge of secondary education requirements
- Knowledge of postsecondary education options, application procedures, and admission requirements
- Knowledge of financial aid and scholarship opportunities and application processes
- Strong ability to communicate with students, parents, and school staff verbally and in writing
- Excellent program coordination skills, including a demonstrated record of completing tasks on time and within budget
- Competent decision maker with excellent leadership skills
- Ability to work with staff, teachers, and students at various educational levels
- Ability to work independently
Skills
- Proficiency in the use of computerized office systems and word processing tools.
- Experience using student information databases (e.g. CoBro, Blumen) to submit Annual Performance Report
- Bilingual (English/ Spanish or Other)
