Position Summary

The Center for Innovation in STEM Education (CISE) is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented Administrative Assistant to support daily operations for the Fabrication Technology Project. This role plays a key part in assisting the Fab Lab Team—especially our Technicians—and supporting our partners in delivering impactful STEM learning experiences to underserved and underrepresented communities.

 

The CSUDH Fab Lab project operates five mobile fabrication laboratories and our on-campus Fabrication Labs, serving K–16 students, teachers, CSUDH faculty, pre-service STEM teachers, and community members. These labs provide hands-on access to fabrication technologies, including 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC mills, vinyl cutters, electronics equipment, and 3D modeling tools—empowering participants to engage in real-world problem solving, innovation, and project-based learning.

This is a full-time, benefited, onsite position with an hourly rate of $22-$23.00.

Duties and Responsibilities

Administrative & Office Support

  • Answer phones and greet visitors.
  • Schedule appointments, meetings, and maintain calendars.
  • Create, organize, and maintain filing systems (electronic and physical).
  • Prepare communications such as memos, emails, invoices, reports, and other correspondence.
  • Write and edit documents, including letters, reports, and instructional materials.
  • Manage account tracking and documentation related to STEAM events.

Event & Program Coordination

  • Assist with scheduling and logistics for STEAM Events, including STEAM Experiences, STEAM Days, and Summer Camps.
  • Coordinate visits for partners and ensure all event logistics are communicated clearly.
  • Set up Google Folders for STEAM Events (Unit Plans, Brief/Debrief Notes, Assignments, Equipment Checklists, Evaluation Surveys, Technician Break Schedules, Planning Docs, Teaching Calendars, Pre/Post Assessments, etc.).
  • Collaborate with the Instructional, Undergraduate, Credential, and Fab Lab Teams to ensure smooth event execution.

Technician & Fab Lab Support

  • Serve as a liaison between the Administrative team and the Fab Lab Technicians.
  • Conduct walk-throughs of Fab Lab events and classrooms to identify equipment, staffing, and supply needs. Report back to technicians & Fab Lab coordinator about event logistics.
  • Report equipment or personnel needs to the Fab Lab Coordinator proactively.
  • Support Technicians during preparation and breakdown of Fab Lab events as needed.
  • Develop proficiency with fabrication technologies (3D printers, laser cutters, vinyl cutters, CNC mills, electronics tools, and related software).

Communication & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Work directly with the Director of Innovative Instruction to support program operations.
  • Communicate clearly with teachers, students, administrators, support personnel, and community partners.
  • Ensure accurate and timely flow of information between the Fab Lab Team, Technicians, and external stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

· High School Diploma (required)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
  • Knowledge of basic database maintenance.
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact with diverse populations.
  • Self-motivated to learn new concepts and take initiative in new projects.
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with a team, including Technicians and instructional staff.
  • Flexible schedule (must be available on some Saturdays).
  • Reliable transportation and a valid California Driver’s License.
  • Punctual, detail-oriented, and able to work consistently over time.
